DAWSON

Tex Dawson was born in Winnipeg Manitoba. As a teenager moved to Montreal where he finished his high school. He later joined the Canadian Army where he was with the 7th Medium Artillery Regiment.

During his service he attended McGill University in the "Canadian Army Course" obtaining credits for first year engineering. He later enrolled in Khaki University in Watford England.

Tex contributed to the regimental history with his cartoons as well as illustrations for the University newspaper.

Tex graduated from McGill university with B Arch degree where he was awarded the Lieutenant Governors Bronze Medal for his Thesis.


He worked as a draftsman for various Montreal Architectural firms and later established his own practice, Dawson and Szymanski.

In 1982 Tex began illustrating a weekly column by Edgar Andrew Collard for the Montreal Gazette and illustrated several of E.A. Collard's books.


You can find both Dawson's oils and aquarelle's in private and public collections throughout Canada, the United States and Europe.

Tex is also a director of Camp Amy Molson, a camp for underprivileged children, and a member of the Arts Club of Montreal.
